Morning!
I don’t know if I’ve woken up feeling this good on a Monday in…a week?
Just kidding. I don’t really mind Mondays, especially if my weekend was good, and this past one was no exception!
Friday night was low key. Saturday was my big ol’ 150km bike ride (I found some more pictures).

I wonder what we were talking about!

happy! note that guys are following me, not vice versa ![]()
Yesterday I got to channel my inner Serena. Then I got to go on a road trip with my friend, Tanya, who I haven’t spent much time with lately because things have been oh so busy. So the quality time in itself was awesome, but we also got to take a ferry ride to the states, sit down for dinner (and a beer
!), and go to a hoedown in the middle of Detroit. You didn’t read that wrong. The concert last night was part of the Downtown Hoedown and it was just ironic to be in the middle of the ghetto (;)!) with a bunch of floral, flannel, cowboy boot wearing people (many of whom were also tipsy and even tailgating at their cars, bbq included–this was quite the party!). I want to go again next year.
Miranda Lambert was amazing. She was stunning, sounded just like her CDs, and knew how to put on a show. She talked in between the songs and worked the crowd and holy smokes, all those plans I had for myself and my future yesterday are gonezo because I want to be her. JK. Or organize country concerts. Or move to Texas or out west. Or just do something that allows me to wear my cowgirl boots all day every day.
I’m only kind of kidding!
Fav performance last night, as cheesy at it is, was All Kinds of Kinds. She gave a little intro about how grateful she is for her fans accepting her as she is and how it might be what makes you different that gets you ahead. Our hands went up and it was just a feel good song!
Of course her man-bashing songs and the oh so cute love songs were also awesome, and a random one song appearance by none other than Kid Rock happened. Only at a hoedown. In the middle of the city.
Anyways, it was 100% worth staying up until 2am (long drive back!). I’m in for a long day here with a test tomorrow afternoon that I’ve not really done much of any studying for, but I think having an awesome weekend > worrying my butt off and still feeling stressed to have to study anyways. I just finished breakfast but figured what the hell and thought I’d check in. It’s off to the lab for the morning (we’re on the meat unit today) and then class. I’m teaching spin tonight–yay! It’s gonna rain tonight so I’m banking on studying motivation spontaneously arriving with the clouds.
Also those jokes about my future are mostly jokes, but I have to remind myself that you don’t NEED to choose your whole life plan ahead of time. I’ve learned this before, I’ve shared this before, I’m just reminding myself! And luckily my brought this little reminder in my YKAL newsletter:
“Always remember that the future comes one day at a time” -Dean Acheson
Today’s gonna be good.
Did you do anything exciting this weekend?
Do you like country?
What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?

I went to the Pinery this weekend to celebrate a friend’s birthday. And I did my usual jumpboard/springwall pilates class. I’m becoming obsessed with pilates! It’s such a great workout!
That sounds so cool!
And I saw you have the Jillian DVD. LOVE
omg a hoedown in detroit!!! that’s so…ironic yet awesome. I can’t say I’m a country music fan but i LOVE outdoor concert festivals and wearing cowgirl boots!
sounds like such an EPIC weekend. and you’re right – it helps to have a roadmap for the future, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take detours or a different route!
Aha I know. It was in the PARKING LOT of the baseball field. LMAO! Cowgirl boots forrrrrrever.
Your posts make me smile so much, I love how you end on such a positive note. I am so inspired by your strength.
I always feel better after I post and I really really really am trying to live by the motto that there’s no use in being anything but optimistic.
LOVE country and would LOVE to see Miranda! Maybe you and I can do a concert in London this year love?
I have been to a few in London already!
I’m so in! Pick em? That’s the part I’m bad at. The dancing, singing, loving it — I’ve got down!
I’m not a big fan of country music, but that hoedown sounds like so much fun!
The best concert I’ve ever been to was my 3rd John Mayer concert. He’s seriously so incredible to see live. His guitar skills are amazing!
AGREED! I saw him twice and LOVED IT! Once was outside with Sheryl Crow. A M A ZING!
Let’s go to a concert ASAP.
