  1. Hi there,

A reader here. I just wanted to ask what you think about London? Busy? affordable, clean housing? In comparison to other Ontario cities? (Oakville, or others)> Any suggestions for a few cities in Ontario that are nice, affordble, not TOO high traffic, have libraries and nice cafes, walking trails, etc…do these places exist :)
Thanks, I may be on placement somewhere in Ontario soon and am overwhelmed and discouraged by all the traffic and stuff.
Ideally, I’d like an Ottawa setting, or better yet California quiet :) , but Ottawa is not a choice right now.

also, about your comments on orthorexia…well, it is a VERY FINE LINE..I encourage you to read “Health Food Junkies” by Stephen Bratman and online articles by him.
20/20 also did a story once on orthorexia and its ties with raw foodism movement…its eye -opening (maybe its online somewhere?).
I thought Nell Stephenson’s response was a bit ignorant, no offense to her. But you really have to educate yourself on this. Yes trying to be “eat pure clean, healthy only” can be extreme and can be a problem and can lead to death.
We can’t judge what we don’t live in or with.

(and for full disclosure, I am not paleo, but that should not matter in this conversation anyway).

    • Hi there, London’s not busy at all compared to Ottawa, etc. I like it a lot, but I’m from a small town. There’s nice trails and there are some bad parts of town and some really nice, safe ones too that are not too expensive to live in. I hope that helps. If you end up here, I can help you more!

I think I may have watched that piece on 20/20 or at least the teaser for it on The Today Show.

You said: “Yes trying to be “eat pure clean, healthy only” can be extreme and can be a problem and can lead to death.”
…how? Are you suggesting that we need junk food to survive? I’m struggling to see how eating real food could be so extreme that it would lead to death. If the obsession to avoid junk food meant you restricted calories or skipped food over and over again because you couldn’t find quality nutrition up to your standards, fine. But that’s not the same as saying that eating only real food is bad for you…

      • Hey, thanks for the info. on london…that is helpful! I wonder if apartments are affordable and CLEAN there? Any other ontario cities you recommend with the above criteria I mentioned?

Re the orthorexia, read “Health food Junkies”..etc….raw foodism at its extreme is another…you REALLy need to do a LOT more indepth research, etc…
also, things like paleo need to be taken in the “right ” way…for example, i see a lot of bloggers adopting the “whole 30″ because to them its “low carb, “clean”, etc…while they are ignoring the whole paleo lifestyle (i.e. SLEEP, no chronic cardio, low stress, out in nature, sunlight, etc…WAY beyond diet, etc)…sadly those bloggers just flock to it as “low carb, ultra clean eating, low cals, no ingredients, etc”…

        Other good blogs:

        http://www.katiekdid.com/

        http://www.eatliverun.com
        http://www.pbfingers.com

Some people just adopt paleo or otherwise cause its another form of restriction. People have to do things for the RIGHT reasons.

Being deathly afraid to eat a slice of cheese or granola if absolutely starving and without choice? That’s a problem.

I was once shoved in a hospital and force-fed utter crap (ice cream, bread, desserts, etc) and had NO choice. Do I hate them for it? Yes. Do I think its wrong? Yes. But do I feel “unclean” now? No…I can’t…

I think paleo is a great lifestyle BUT where I live there are NO grassfed or antibitotic sausages, chicken, beef, etc…
so I occasionally buy chicken….have to make due with the cheaper eggs (cause I can’t afford 6 dollars organic when i eat multiple eggs a day), i eat a lot of fish, etc…but YES i do eat grains (i dont’ want to deprive myself or feel “i can’t have things…plus, for many people, going too low carb, even just a little less, can wreak HAVOC on metabolism and thyroid …HAVOC)…i do eat fruits (too much) , dairy (oops), veggies, and a TON of fats (coconut oil, olive oil, nuts, nut butters, avocados, fatty fish, whole eggs, Dark CHOCOLATE..anotoher oops)..

I wish we had organic chicken sausages here (i see it on people’s blogs…or grass fed beef, or liver or stuff…but i have zilch of that stuff NOR do ii have that moula)…i just try not to focus on food too much or it TAKES OVER MY LIFE…
orthorexia has many faces…read all the articles and the book (Health Food Junies) by Stephen Bratman….anything taken to an extreme is often not good…

also, life is one big transition…how a person feels or eats or sleeps or exercises or works in OnE lifestage will ebb and flow and change as time goes on an wisdom is gained and preferences change….just keep flowing with it and allow yourself to do what u feel is right in that time..

anyway, anymore tips on ontario cities, let me know..majorly…the best places to live ? :)
