About

“Happiness is an attitude.  We either make ourselves miserable, or happy and strong.  The amount of work is the same.”

                                                                                     - Francesca Reigler

Who am I?

My name is Cheryl Madliger — I’m a life coach, fitness instructor and personal trainer, kinesiology graduate, freelance writer, and self-help junkie. I love kale, mountains, spandex, Christmas and all things inspirational. I’m trained in co-active coaching, I keep Starbucks in business, and I am happiest when I’m on my bike!

I’m 24, live in London, Ontario, and want to change the world. My mission?  I’m here to serve as a real life example of living healthy and to use my own personal experience to launch a career and a life of inspiring, enabling, and coaching others to take responsibility and gain the health, happy, and awesome that’s rightfully theirs! I’m a pioneer woman who forges new paths. I’m a leader who strikes a revolution.

What’s my story?

I might be happy today, but it wasn’t always this way. I grew up overweight, pretty sedentary, and not overly confident. In high school I launched into a long string of yoyo dieting—restriction, overexercising, bingeing, purging, etc.—and wound up unhealthy, depressed, and miserable. I took charge and started my recovery, blogging about it along the way.

Eventually I realized some stuff:  Firstly, that one day, I’m going to die—so I better stop wasting my time worrying, especially about silly things like the size of my thighs.  Secondly, that not only did I deserve to be free of my eating disorder, I deserved to be healthy—really healthy, even! Finally, that it was never about the food, weight, or behaviours—it was always about how I thought of myself. Until I started looking at my beliefs and worked on building my self esteem and confidence, I was stuck at “okay”. But okay’s not awesome so I went for it and here I am—happy and healthy! Success and fulfillment became not about being a certain weight or fitting into a certain box but about living my life on purpose.

What you’ll find here

This blog is my place to share all things healthy, happy, and interesting. From recaps of my training/teaching (CrossFit, yoga, cycling, triathlon, jungle gym workouts, etc. come up) to insights on my eats to coaching-inspired questions and insights, I post what’s going on in my world in full confidence that it will resonate with what’s going on in yours.

This blog is my baby and my way of being who I am in a big way. I showcase the things that light me up–writing, training, nutrition, health, cheesy quotes–and get to explain what it is that I do with coaching. happy is the new healthy is all things Cheryl.

  1. Hi! My name is Sue, and I’m from SlimKicker, a fitness/diet app and online website. I came across your blog today and it captured my interest!

I’m contacting you b/c we’re about to release a fitness tracker (similar to FitBit) early next year, and are looking for bloggers who would be interested in receiving 1 for free to review when it is out (negative or positive).

Would you be interested in doing this? You can email me at: sue (at) slimkicker (com) with ‘Review’ in the email heading if you are.

For your info, our online website SlimKicker basically turns your fitness/diet goals into a level-up RPG game. The tracker will work with the website, and allow people to track calories burned and number of steps they walk automatically. The more they exercise, the more points they rack up! That’s basically how it will work.

Anyway, hope to hear back either way…

    - Sue
